Laurie Currie is The Local Guy

This is a conversation about work ethic and following your heart. Laurie is truly one of the nicest people I have ever met. What inspires me about him is how intentional he is about his lifestyle. He makes time for the things that matter and pairs down on the things that don't. A lesson we could all do well to learn more.

Laurie Currie grew up in small town Nova Scotia where he was taught the value of a hard days work right from a very young age. These lessons have followed him throughout his life to where he was eventually in charge of his own fishing boat. Little did he know at the time that the long hard days at sea were the perfect conditions for developing the mindset of an ultra runner.

Laurie takes a lot of pride in the lifestyle he has cultivated, living off the land growing, farming, fishing, and foraging a lot of his food. If there is something else he needs, he will often trade for it. Living in Spencer's Island, Laurie forages for dulse and chaga too wild superfoods known for their health benefits that happen to be right at his doorstep.

Living just minutes from Cape Chignecto Provincial Park, one of the hottest trail running destinations in Nova Scotia, Laurie truly is the local guy in one of the most beautiful places this province has to offer. Over the past year Laurie has found a way to share is passion for the outdoors and his community through his new business Local Guy Adventures, and we get into all of the details of how that came about.

I always love getting a chance to visit with Laurie in person. I have not been able to do that in a while due to the pandemic, so I enjoyed getting the chance to sit down and have a conversation with him, just like we were sitting on one of the logs outside of his house on the beach.
