Talk with the coach
Here at New Leaf Running Company, we believe ordinary people can do extraordinary things, and that living an active lifestyle can transform your life in more ways than one. We also believe that these goals can be achieved while balancing real word, family and work life. It is our passion to help people achieve their fitness goals, whether is a first 5k, a first half marathon or getting a PB in an ultra event.
We provide science based endurance coaching to runners of all abilities, and provide you with the guidance and tools to build fitness and dial in your race strategy for your best performance yet.
“Rick coached me through my first trail Ultra and helped me achieve a BQ on my first road marathon, all during some very challenging times in my life. His support and one-on-one approach helped immensely to overcome some of life’s hurdles to achieve my running goals. He is approachable, attentive, responsive, and tremendously supportive - all the best attributes in a personal coach. He celebrates the achievements of his athletes as much as (or more than?) he celebrates his own :) I would recommend him to anyone looking for a personal coach!” - Leah
“I highly recommend working with Rick. Considering the amount of time a semi-serious runner will spend running, you owe it to yourself to be executing the workouts that drive the right results. Rick will build that plan and even help you with all the non-running stuff (i.e. life!) that tries to prevent you from reaching your goals. Let Rick create the plan and provide the on-going advice, you just execute, have fun, and be amazed by the results!” - Mark
“I've trained with coach Rick for two big race goals. Though I had already learned a lot about how to train from previous training cycles, I would never have gotten to that next level without Rick's deep knowledge. But even more importantly, he knows how to motivate me when I needed to train harder, and how to keep me in check when I need to recover. From his excitement when I met my goals, I know that he is just as invested in my training as I am. In addition to his personal programming, it's also a big help to meet up for Furiously Frosty Morning Fun Time in the winter, when I need that motivation and team support the most. I get to meet up with runners of all levels and have a blast before the sun comes up. Rick is good at making sure that the workout is fun and beneficial for us all.” - Chad
We know you are the kind of runner that has BIG goals. In order to achieve them you need the knowledge, clarity and tools to succeed. The problem is there are so many ways to go about training, and there is enough information available to you that it tells a fairly convincing story that you can figure it out on your own. Which makes it easy to feel overwhelmed and get confused about what is right for you, or even where to start.
We believe that just because you are doing an individual sport rather than a team sport, it doesn't mean it's all on you and that you should have to do it all on your own. We understand how hard it is to wade through all the information, and figure out what you have to execute on. That’s why we remove the confusion by giving you the information that is right for you, when you need it.
Through many years of training and working with 100’s of athletes, we have developed the New Leaf Running Framework, a smarter (not harder) daily training methodology with a focus on how to avoid injury and strategies to improve speed and endurance. This framework as the backbone of our coaching program with every athlete we work with.

A few weeks ago, on Thanksgiving weekend, a small crew from the east coast (NFLD, NS, NB) made the trip to Bromont, Quebec, to take on one of the most challenging 100's east of the Rockies, boasting 7000m of elevation gain over the 160k course.
I ran the race myself and wanted to share my experience with you, but I also thought it would be cool if everyone else I knew would be up for sitting down to share their experiences. They said yes, and here we are.
Running an ultramarathon is a journey in getting to know yourself. The difference between a marathon and a 50-mile and a 100-mile race isn't so much about moving your legs. It is much more about the time you get to spend in your head. And on your training.
