Mark McColgan on Finding Motivation Through Giving Back

This is a conversation about community, inclusivity, and fostering diversity. Mark is an accomplished runner in his right, but this conversation is about so much more than that. Mark is the head of St. John Trail Running and sits on the board of New Brunswick Trail Running. We talk about the work he is doing to make the sport of trail running in New Brunswick an inclusive, accepting, and diverse activity for all to enjoy.

Mark has his roots deep in the local trail running community. He works hard to make the experience of trail running fun for runners of all abilities. And, it shows, Mark is the most requested guest to date by podcast listeners!

Mark and I have crossed paths a few times at different races and have shared an adventure, but this was truly the first time that I have gotten the opportunity to get to know him. He is one extremely humble and kind human. What piqued my interest to get him on the show was I noticed his efforts to raise funds for trail maintenance for one of his local trails, and to me, that was going the extra mile to give back to the community, so I used that as an excuse to reach out to him to have a conversation.

I enjoyed the opportunity to get to know Mark outside of the short conversations we’ve shared at races, and I’m sure you’re going to enjoy it too.
